One of the questions I am asked more than almost any other is:

“If my loved ones are still with me, why don’t they just come and tell me what to do?”

It’s an understandable question. If those in the spirit world can communicate with us, why don’t they simply appear, give us the answers to life’s problems and point us in the right direction?

The answer lies in one of the most important spiritual principles there is: free will.

Why Free Will Matters

Every one of us has come into this life to learn.

We grow through our experiences, our successes, our mistakes and the choices we make along the way. If those in spirit constantly told us exactly what to do, there would be little purpose in having those experiences.

Our loved ones, guides and helpers respect that.

They may encourage us, inspire us and gently guide us, but they cannot live our lives for us.

The choice must always remain ours.

When a Thought Isn’t Quite Your Own

Over the years, I have noticed something remarkable.

Many people who come to see me say exactly the same thing.

They weren’t planning to contact me. Then, one day, a thought suddenly appeared in their mind.

“Perhaps I should go and see Rob.”

Or they happened to search for something online and one of my videos appeared.

They often describe it as coincidence.

I don’t.

Time and time again, I see these moments carefully arranged by those in the spirit world. They cannot force anyone to act, but they can place an idea gently into someone’s mind.

Whether that person follows the thought is entirely down to their own free will.

Just recently, a gentleman came to see me after experiencing exactly this. Out of nowhere, he felt a strong urge to contact me. He couldn’t explain why, but the feeling was so persistent that he eventually acted upon it.

That decision allowed me to help him.

The guidance came from spirit.

The choice came from him.

How Spirit Inspires Rather Than Controls

This is how communication from the spirit world usually works.

They rarely arrive with dramatic messages telling you exactly what to do.

Instead, they may inspire a thought.

They may give you what people often call a brainwave.

You suddenly have an idea that feels right.

Perhaps you decide to ring someone you haven’t spoken to for years.

Perhaps you choose a different route through life.

Perhaps you finally find the courage to make an important decision.

Was it entirely your idea?

Perhaps.

Or perhaps someone in the spirit world quietly placed that thought into your mind.

Either way, you still have complete freedom to ignore it or follow it.

That is how free will is preserved.

What Happens in a Mediumship Circle

One of the most beautiful places to experience this connection is within a properly run mediumship circle.

I run several circles where people come together to learn about the spirit world in a safe, protected environment.

The purpose is not simply to develop mediumship.

It is to bring the two worlds closer together.

Love is the foundation of everything we do.

When a circle is built upon love, prayer and the right intention, the atmosphere changes. Those in the spirit world are able to draw much closer than they ordinarily would.

The connection becomes easier.

People begin to realise that communication with spirit is often much gentler and more natural than they ever imagined.

A Simple Exercise with Extraordinary Results

During one of my recent circles, we carried out a simple exercise towards the end of the evening.

I asked everyone to relax and allow spirit to impress a few words upon their minds.

This was not trance mediumship.

Nobody was allowing spirit to take control of their body or speak through them.

Instead, each person simply became quiet enough to receive inspiration.

Every single person passed on words.

What was remarkable was that the messages did not sound like their own.

The language, the wisdom and the feeling behind the words were completely different from how they would normally express themselves.

It was a wonderful demonstration of how gently the spirit world can communicate when we create the right conditions.

Why You Should Never Open Yourself Up Without Guidance

While genuine communication with spirit can be beautiful, it is also something that should be approached with care.

One mistake people sometimes make is attempting to “open themselves up” without proper training or experienced guidance.

This is something I strongly advise against.

When you intentionally open yourself to the spirit world without protection or understanding, you cannot assume that only loving spirits will draw close.

Just as there are kind people in this world, there are also troubled individuals who have passed into the next.

Sometimes the wrong spirit responds.

Throughout my work, I regularly help people who have unknowingly allowed wandering spirits to attach themselves to them because they experimented without proper protection.

A well-run circle begins with prayer, protection and experienced leadership.

That makes all the difference.

Spirit Can Encourage, But Never Control

Many people who have had a clairvoyant reading will recognise this.

A loved one may encourage you by saying:

“Have courage.”

“Keep going.”

“Be careful which path you choose.”

These messages offer guidance.

What they never do is remove your ability to choose.

Spirit will not dictate your life.

They will not tell you every decision to make.

Your life is your journey, and your experiences are yours to learn from.

Listening to the Quiet Guidance

Perhaps you’ve experienced one of those moments yourself.

A thought appears unexpectedly.

An idea arrives that seems to come from nowhere.

You feel quietly drawn towards a particular person, place or decision.

It may simply be your own intuition.

Or it may be that someone in the spirit world has lovingly placed a gentle suggestion into your mind.

You’ll probably never know for certain.

But that isn’t really the point.

What matters is that the choice remains yours.

Spirit can inspire.

Spirit can encourage.

Spirit can guide.

But because free will is one of life’s greatest gifts, only you can decide whether to take the next step.
