One of the questions I am asked most often is whether evil spirits, black magic or curses can really control someone’s life.

People sometimes come to me convinced that someone has placed a curse on them, or that an evil spirit is influencing everything they do. Others believe another person has some mysterious power over them.

After many years of working as a medium and helping people with spirit-related problems, my answer is always the same:

You are far more powerful than you realise.

Evil Spirits Are Like Evil People

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that people do not suddenly become different simply because they leave the physical body.

A kind person remains kind.

A loving person remains loving.

Sadly, a cruel or manipulative person often remains exactly the same after they pass into the spirit world.

The evil spirits I occasionally encounter behave very much like difficult people here on Earth. They use fear, intimidation and manipulation. They try to make people doubt themselves and believe they have power over them.

But the important word here is believe.

Much of their influence comes from convincing someone they are powerless.

The Psychology of a Curse

The same thing happens in everyday life.

Sometimes people claim they have placed a curse on someone or that they possess dark spiritual powers.

Most people laugh it off.

But occasionally someone begins to wonder…

“What if it’s true?”

Then, every time something goes wrong, they begin connecting it to the supposed curse.

They lose their keys.

Their car breaks down.

Something unexpected happens.

Instead of seeing life’s ordinary ups and downs, they start thinking:

“Maybe this is because of the curse.”

The fear grows, even though the person who claimed to have power over them has no real control.

Fear Gives Power

I’ve seen something very similar when helping people who believe they have a spirit in their home.

Once they become convinced there’s a ghost present, every little thing suddenly becomes the ghost’s fault.

A strange noise?

The ghost.

Misplaced belongings?

The ghost.

Something breaks unexpectedly?

The ghost again.

Fear begins to explain everything.

That doesn’t mean the original experience wasn’t genuine—it simply means fear starts taking control of how we interpret everything else.

Free Will Is One of God’s Greatest Gifts

One of the most important spiritual laws is free will.

Every one of us has it.

You decide how you live your life.

Other people have the freedom to behave badly if they choose to.

Sadly, some do.

But they cannot take away your own free will.

Eventually, every soul must face the consequences of the life they have lived. That applies equally to those on Earth and those who have passed into the spirit world.

But right now, your responsibility is your own life.

Your Loved Ones Want to Help

Whenever someone tells me they feel overwhelmed by negative influences—whether from another person or from a spirit—I give them exactly the same advice.

Ask your loved ones in the spirit world to come close.

Some people think that sounds too simple.

Surely something more dramatic is needed?

But think about it.

If someone you loved asked for your help, you would do everything you could for them.

Your loved ones haven’t stopped loving you simply because they have left this world.

The difference is that they cannot interfere with your life unless you invite their help.

Your free will matters.

When you consciously ask for their support, you are giving them permission to draw closer.

Love Is Stronger Than Fear

When your loved ones come close, they bring something that fear cannot compete with.

Love.

Strength.

Comfort.

Peace.

People often tell me afterwards that they simply feel stronger.

They don’t always see anything.

They may not hear voices.

But something changes inside them.

The fear begins to disappear.

Their confidence returns.

That is often the greatest protection anyone can receive.

Don’t Give Your Power Away

Whether someone claims to have cursed you or whether you feel influenced by negativity, remember this:

You are not powerless.

Don’t allow fear to convince you that someone else controls your life.

If someone tries to manipulate you, whether they are living or in the spirit world, remember that fear is their greatest weapon.

Love is yours.

Final Thoughts

Kind people are sometimes targeted because they are compassionate, caring and trusting.

Sadly, there will always be those who mistake kindness for weakness.

But kindness is not weakness.

In my experience, truly loving people are often far more spiritually advanced than those who try to control others through fear.

So if you’re ever worried about curses, black magic or negative spiritual influences, don’t live in fear.

Ask your loved ones to draw close.

Ask God, or however you understand the Divine, for protection.

Choose love instead of fear.

Because in the end, love is always the stronger force.
