One of the things that has struck me recently is just how many people have contacted me after sensing someone around them who has recently passed away. In several cases over the past few weeks, I’ve been able to help wandering spirits move on, bringing peace not only to those left behind but also to the soul that was struggling to find its way.
For many people, this may sound unbelievable. But after decades of working as a medium, I have seen these situations happen time and time again.
When Someone Doesn’t Move On Straight Away
Many of the people who contact me have never had much interest in life after death. They don’t consider themselves spiritual, they don’t attend churches or circles, and they certainly aren’t looking for ghosts.
Then something changes.
Perhaps a close friend or family member has recently died. A few days later, or sometimes a week or two afterwards, they begin sensing a presence.
They may feel someone standing beside them.
They might notice the hairs on their arms standing up.
They may simply have the overwhelming feeling that someone familiar is with them.
At first, they usually dismiss it.
“It can’t be them.”
“I’m imagining it.”
“This sort of thing doesn’t happen.”
Yet the feeling continues.
Why Does This Happen?
From what I have witnessed as a medium, this can happen when someone has passed from this life but is confused about what has happened.
If you’ve lived your life believing there is an afterlife, accepting that your loved ones will be waiting for you, then the transition is often much smoother. Loved ones in spirit draw close and help you move into the next world.
But not everyone believes in life after death.
For some, leaving the physical body can come as a tremendous shock.
Instead of immediately moving on, they remain close to familiar people and places because that’s all they understand. They aren’t trying to frighten anyone—they’re simply confused.
A Young Woman Who Needed Reassurance
One case stands out in particular.
A lady came to see me because she could constantly sense someone around her. The person she was sensing was a young woman she had known in life, around twenty years younger than herself, and someone she had been very close to.
When the lady arrived for her reading, the young woman in spirit came with her.
She clearly proved who she was.
As I watched, it became obvious that she wasn’t trapped—she was uncertain.
Everything about the afterlife was new to her, and she was worried about taking the next step.
Towards the end of the sitting, something remarkable happened.
The young woman asked the lady who had come to see me:
“Do you think I should move on to the next world?”
The lady simply replied:
“Yes.”
The moment she gave her permission and encouragement, I watched the young woman leave. She moved peacefully into the next world.
It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes all a confused soul needs is reassurance.
A Best Friend Who Stayed Close
Another recent case involved a sensitive young woman who suddenly became aware of someone in the house.
There wasn’t a haunting.
There wasn’t an evil spirit.
The presence turned out to be the best friend of her husband—a man who had recently passed away.
Her husband didn’t believe in any of this, but his friend had simply stayed close to the people he knew during his life because he hadn’t yet moved on.
Again, with help, he was able to continue his journey into the spirit world.
The Difference Afterwards
One of the most consistent things I notice in these situations is what happens afterwards.
Before the spirit moves on, people describe feeling watched or sensing someone nearby.
Afterwards?
Nothing.
The atmosphere changes completely.
The presence disappears.
The house feels peaceful again.
The person seeking help knows that something has changed, even if they can’t fully explain it.
Most importantly, the wandering soul has also found peace.
There’s Nothing to Fear
People often assume that if they sense someone around them, it must be something frightening or negative.
In my experience, that is often not the case.
Sometimes it is simply someone who has recently left this world and doesn’t yet understand where they are or where they need to go.
These souls are not evil.
They are confused.
And confusion can be resolved.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve recently lost someone and you begin sensing their presence, don’t automatically assume you’re imagining it. Equally, don’t panic.
There may simply be a soul that needs a little guidance.
Over the years, I have seen countless examples where both the living and the person in spirit have found peace once the soul has been helped to move on.
To me, this is one of the most compassionate aspects of mediumship. It isn’t about creating fear or telling ghost stories. It’s about helping people on both sides of life.
And that, ultimately, is what matters most.
