One of the subjects I am often asked about is free will.
People hear it mentioned in spiritual teachings, religious texts and during clairvoyance, but what does it actually mean? More importantly, why is it so important?
From everything I have experienced through mediumship over the past 50 years, free will is one of the greatest gifts we have been given.
We Are All Free to Choose
Every one of us is walking our own pathway through life.
We are not forced to become a certain type of person. We are not controlled or told exactly what to do. Instead, we have the freedom to make our own choices.
That means you can choose to live with kindness, compassion and love.
Or you can choose a very different path.
The important thing to understand is that every choice we make shapes who we become.
Our Choices Continue Beyond This Life
Many people assume that everyone goes to exactly the same place when they pass into the spirit world.
From my experience, that isn’t how it works.
You will certainly meet your loved ones again, but people continue their spiritual journey according to the life they have lived.
The way we use our free will here on Earth has consequences beyond this life.
That is why our choices matter.
Kindness Should Be a Choice
Imagine someone forces you to be kind.
Perhaps they tell you to help others or to do good deeds.
If you are only doing those things because someone has instructed you to, is that really kindness?
True goodness comes when it is your own decision.
When you freely choose to help someone.
When you choose forgiveness instead of anger.
When you choose compassion instead of judgement.
That is where real spiritual growth begins.
Why Some Spirits Return So Easily
During clairvoyance, I often experience loved ones returning from the spirit world to communicate with their families.
Many of those people lived kind, generous lives.
When they return, they often do so with great peace because they have nothing to hide from. They simply come back to reassure those they love and to continue helping from the other side.
But not every experience is the same.
Sometimes spirits come through carrying regret.
As they draw closer to the Earth plane, memories of their life return with incredible clarity.
For some, saying “I’m sorry” can be one of the hardest things they ever have to do.
The Ripple Effect of Our Lives
One way to understand free will is to think about the effect your life has on others.
Imagine that after leaving this world, you are able to look back at the lives of the people you have left behind.
You see someone you once helped.
Because of the kindness you showed them, they are now helping somebody else.
Your love has continued to spread long after you have gone.
What a wonderful thing that would be to witness.
Sadly, the opposite can also happen.
If someone spent their life hurting others, those actions can create more pain that continues through other people.
Looking back and realising that your choices caused suffering would be incredibly difficult.
Our actions don’t simply disappear.
They leave a legacy.
Every Choice Matters
Free will is not something to fear.
It is an opportunity.
Every day we have the chance to choose how we treat other people.
Every conversation.
Every act of kindness.
Every opportunity to help someone.
These are the moments that shape both our own spiritual journey and the lives of those around us.
Choose Love
The message is really very simple.
Be as kind as you can.
Help people whenever you have the opportunity.
Treat others with love and compassion.
Not because someone tells you to.
But because you choose to.
That is the true meaning of free will.
And by making those choices every day, you not only make this world a better place, but you also continue your own spiritual journey towards a brighter future.
