Life is one of the greatest mysteries we will ever face. Many people ask questions such as: Why are we here? What is the purpose of life? Is there life after death? These are profound questions that have been asked throughout history, and from my own experiences as a medium, I believe the answers are both simple and deeply meaningful.
Life Is More Than One Lifetime
One of the fundamental beliefs I hold is that life does not end when we leave this earth. I have no doubt that there is life beyond physical death. Throughout many years of mediumship, healing and helping spirits move on, I have witnessed countless examples that convince me that consciousness continues.
When I remove ghosts or help spirits who have become earthbound, I am helping individuals who have not yet fully moved into the next stage of existence. Likewise, during spiritual circles, we often encounter highly evolved souls—what some may call advanced spirits, guides or even angels—who have progressed far beyond this earthly existence.
From these experiences, I have come to understand that our time on earth is only one chapter in a much larger journey.
Earth Is a School for the Soul
Perhaps the easiest way to understand the purpose of life is to think of it as a school.
When we send our children to school, we do not sit beside them and complete their lessons for them. They must learn for themselves. They must experience successes, failures, friendships, disappointments and challenges because these experiences help them grow into the people they are meant to become.
Life on earth is very similar.
We are here to learn through experience.
Every joy, every struggle, every disappointment and every triumph teaches us something valuable. These experiences shape who we become, not only in this life but in the next.
Why Do We Suffer?
One question that many people ask is:
“Why is my life so difficult?”
It is a fair question. Some people seem to face enormous hardships—illness, grief, loss, financial worries or emotional pain.
Yet often, the people best able to support others are those who have walked through suffering themselves.
If you are facing a major challenge, the person whose advice usually means the most is someone who has already experienced something similar. They understand your pain. They know what it feels like. They can offer genuine compassion because they have lived it.
This, I believe, is one of the great purposes of life.
Through our own experiences, we gain sympathy, understanding and wisdom. We then use these qualities to help others who are walking a similar path.
Every Experience Has Value
When we eventually move into the spirit world, many spiritual teachings suggest that we review our lives. We see not only our own experiences but also the impact we had upon others.
Sometimes we may discover that a simple act of kindness changed someone’s life. Perhaps that person then went on to help another, who in turn helped someone else.
The ripple effect of love and compassion can continue far beyond anything we realise while we are here on earth.
No experience is wasted.
Even the most painful moments can ultimately lead to greater understanding, both for ourselves and for others.
Would an Easy Life Be Enough?
Imagine a life without any hardship at all.
No worries. No illness. No financial concerns. No loss. No challenges.
At first, it might sound ideal. But spiritually speaking, such a life would offer very little opportunity for growth.
Without challenges, we would never develop compassion, resilience, patience or understanding. We would simply have to learn those lessons later.
From a spiritual perspective, the difficulties we encounter are not punishments. They are opportunities for growth and learning.
The harder the experiences we overcome, the greater our capacity to help others—both while we are here and after we pass into the next life.
A Personal Experience That Changed My Understanding
The most profound example of this came through my own mother.
For twenty years, my mother lived with serious illness. She endured tremendous suffering, yet she rarely complained. She faced challenge after challenge with remarkable strength and dignity.
Six days after she passed, I was sitting in a spiritual circle when I became aware of her presence.
What I saw was extraordinary.
She appeared much younger than she had been at the end of her life. She was radiant—truly shining like an angel. She was, without question, the most beautiful soul I had ever seen.
In that instant, I understood.
The light she carried was, in part, a reflection of everything she had endured with love, courage and compassion. Because of all she had experienced, she was able to understand and help countless others in spirit who were going through similar struggles.
Her suffering had not been meaningless. It had become wisdom, compassion and love.
The Purpose of Life
So what is the purpose of life?
I believe it is to experience, to learn and ultimately to love.
Every experience—whether joyful or painful—teaches us something. Through these experiences, we develop understanding and compassion for others.
And when we eventually leave this world, we take those lessons with us.
The more we learn here, the more we are able to help others, both in this life and in the next.
Life is not simply about existing for a few short years.
It is about growing the soul.
And perhaps that is why every experience, no matter how difficult, has value.
