One of the most common misconceptions I come across as a medium is the belief that if a spirit is present in a house, every strange occurrence must be caused by that spirit.
The reality is often far more complicated.
Over the years, I have helped many people who were convinced they had a ghost in their home. Sometimes they are absolutely right. There is a confused spirit present that needs help moving on. However, once people become aware of a spirit’s presence, there can be a tendency to blame every unusual event on the ghost.
A creaking floorboard becomes the ghost.
A misplaced set of keys becomes the ghost.
A strange noise in the night becomes the ghost.
Human nature is such that when we believe something is there, we start looking for evidence of it everywhere.
The Importance of Keeping an Open Mind
I remember a case some time ago involving a child spirit in a house. The family could sense that something was present, and every unusual noise or unexplained event was immediately attributed to the spirit.
While there genuinely was a spirit in the property, that did not automatically mean it was responsible for every little thing that happened.
It is important to keep a balanced and logical approach when dealing with these situations.
Our minds are incredibly powerful, and sometimes our fears, expectations, and assumptions can lead us to connect unrelated events.
That doesn’t mean a spirit isn’t present. It simply means we need to be careful not to jump to conclusions.
A Recent Case
Only recently, I was contacted by someone who had been sensing a presence in their house for quite some time.
They described it as feeling as though someone was there, although they weren’t entirely sure what they were experiencing. At one point they even wondered whether it could be what they described as a witch.
For a long time, the presence wasn’t causing any significant problems. It was simply something they were aware of from time to time.
Then a physical event took place in the house.
It was something quite dramatic and understandably frightening, particularly because a child was present at the time.
Following this incident, I was asked for help.
As is often the case, photographs of the property were sent to me so I could link with whatever was present there. Upon investigating spiritually, I found there was indeed a confused individual in the house who had not moved on after passing.
The spirit did not wish to leave for its own reasons and required some effort to help move on.
Eventually, however, that was achieved.
Was the Spirit Responsible?
This is where people often want a simple answer.
After the spirit was moved on, the physical disturbances stopped and the lady in the house could no longer sense any presence whatsoever.
Does that mean the spirit caused every strange thing that had happened?
Not necessarily.
I personally believe one of the incidents may well have been connected, but I cannot categorically say that every event was caused by the spirit.
And in truth, that isn’t the most important part.
The important thing is that a confused soul was helped to move on, and the atmosphere within the home returned to normal.
Too Many Ghost Stories
Part of the problem today is that many people have watched countless ghost-hunting programmes and horror films.
As soon as they suspect a spirit may be present, every unexplained occurrence suddenly becomes evidence of paranormal activity.
In reality, many things have perfectly ordinary explanations.
At the same time, spirits do sometimes remain in properties and genuinely need help moving on.
The key is not to allow fear or imagination to take over.
My Role as a Medium
When people contact me about a possible spirit in their home, my focus is not on proving whether every strange event was paranormal.
My concern is simply whether there is a spirit present that needs help.
If there is, then my role is to help that soul move on peacefully to the next world.
Very often, once that has happened, the sense of unease disappears and life returns to normal.
So if you ever find yourself sensing a presence in your home, try not to jump straight to the worst conclusions. Keep an open mind, stay logical, and remember that not everything that goes bump in the night is necessarily a ghost.
But sometimes, there is a spirit present—and when that happens, helping them move on is often the best solution for everyone involved.
