One of the questions I am asked most often is: What is the purpose of life? Why are we here?
It is a question that has been asked throughout history, and while the answer may seem simple, it requires us to expand our minds and look beyond this physical world.
From my own experiences as a medium, I have no doubt that life continues after death. I have spent many years helping spirits who have become stuck between worlds, guiding them onwards. In spiritual circles, I have also encountered what many would call advanced souls, guides, or angels—beings who have moved far beyond this earthly existence.
This tells us something important.
Our life here is not the end of the journey. It is part of a much larger one.
Life Is an Experience
Think of it this way: when you send a child to school, you don’t do their lessons for them. They have to learn for themselves through experience. The challenges they face, the mistakes they make, and the lessons they learn all help them grow into the person they are meant to become.
Life is very similar.
We are here to experience things for ourselves.
Every challenge, every joy, every heartbreak, every success teaches us something. Through these experiences we gain understanding, compassion, and wisdom.
Have you ever noticed that when someone is going through a difficult time, the person best able to help them is often someone who has already faced the same challenge?
Whether it is grief, illness, financial hardship, relationship problems, or loss, people who have walked that path understand in a way that others cannot. They can offer genuine sympathy because they know exactly what it feels like.
That understanding is one of the greatest gifts we can gain during our time here.
Why Is Life Sometimes So Difficult?
Many people ask why life has to be so hard.
The truth is that difficult experiences often teach us the most.
The harder the challenges we face, the more understanding we develop. That understanding allows us to help others who may be facing similar struggles.
While we are living here, we can support people through our knowledge and experience. But that doesn’t stop when we pass into the next world.
The lessons we learn continue to have value.
When we leave this life, we are able to help those who come after us because we understand what they have been through. We know their fears, their worries, and their pain because we have experienced them ourselves.
Looking Back on Your Life
When we move into the spirit world, we look back upon our lives.
We see the people we have helped.
Sometimes we may realise that a small act of kindness had a much greater impact than we ever imagined. Perhaps we helped someone through a difficult period, and because of that support, they later helped someone else.
The ripple effect of kindness and understanding can travel much further than we ever know while we are here.
That is why every experience matters.
My Mother’s Lesson
One of the most profound experiences of my life involved my own mother.
For twenty years she was seriously ill. She endured tremendous suffering and many difficult challenges, yet she rarely complained. She simply carried on with remarkable strength and dignity.
About six days after she passed away, I was sitting in a spiritual circle when I saw her.
She appeared younger than she had been for many years. She was radiant—absolutely shining. She was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever witnessed.
And instantly I understood why.
All the hardship she had endured had given her tremendous compassion and understanding. She knew what it was like to suffer. She knew what it was like to struggle. Because of that, she was able to help so many others who were experiencing the same things.
Her difficult experiences had become a source of strength and service to others.
Every Experience Has Value
When life becomes difficult, it can be hard to see any purpose behind the struggles we face.
But from a spiritual perspective, every experience has value.
Every challenge teaches us something.
Every hardship helps us develop greater understanding.
Every lesson gives us the ability to support someone else.
Life is not simply about getting through the years we spend here. It is about learning, growing, and developing the compassion that allows us to help others—both in this world and in the next.
Because life does not end when we leave this earth.
It continues.
And the more we learn here, the more love, understanding, and support we can offer to others throughout that continuing journey.
