Thinking of Training as a Medium? Here’s What You Need to Know

I’m often asked about training to become a medium. For many people, the idea is quite simple—you find a circle, sit with others, and begin developing your abilities under the guidance of someone experienced.

And yes, that can be how it works… but there’s something very important that must be understood first.

You have to be careful.

The Reality of Sitting in a Circle

I’ve personally sat in circles since I was six years old. Over the years, I’ve witnessed incredible things—trance mediumship, powerful healing, and genuine connections with the spirit world.

But there’s one key reason those experiences were positive:

They were protected circles.

By this, I mean that prayers were said beforehand, the intention was right, and the people involved were genuine. There’s a simple principle at work here—like attracts like. When you sit with good people, with the right intentions, you attract the right kind of energy.

It sounds straightforward, but this is where many people go wrong.

The Danger of Unprotected Circles

I’ve helped many individuals over the years who have attended unprotected circles—or even experimented with things like Ouija boards—without understanding what they were opening themselves up to.

And the truth is, when you sit in a circle, you are doing exactly that: opening yourself up.

Now, just as in the physical world, there is both good and bad in the spirit world. There are kind, loving souls… and there are also negative, harmful ones.

We see this clearly in everyday life. There are wonderful people in the world—and there are also those we wouldn’t want anything to do with. The same applies beyond the physical.

If a circle isn’t protected, you are not choosing what you connect with—you are opening yourself to everything.

I’ve seen cases where people have had spirits attach themselves to them as a result, sometimes leading to quite unpleasant experiences. Not because they intended anything wrong, but because they didn’t take the proper precautions.

Trust Your Instincts

This is where common sense becomes essential.

If you go into a circle and something doesn’t feel right—leave.

Don’t ignore that feeling. Don’t convince yourself it’s fine. Your instincts are there for a reason.

On the other hand, if you walk into a circle and it feels calm, welcoming, and genuine—if the people seem sincere and the environment feels right—then you’re likely in a good place.

Finding the right circle isn’t always easy. It often takes time, and ideally, a recommendation from someone you trust. But it’s worth being selective.

Because not every circle is run properly.

If it feels like it’s being done for entertainment, or led by someone with little experience who believes they know everything—walk away. This is not something to take lightly.

Protection Comes First

Before entering any circle, always take responsibility for your own protection.

Say your prayers—whatever your beliefs may be.

Ask for protection.
Ask for love to surround you.
Ask for your loved ones in the spirit world to be close to you.

They will be there, and they will help ensure that nothing harms you.

A Final Thought

There are many wonderful circles out there, filled with genuine people doing meaningful work. Mediumship, when approached correctly, can be a powerful and positive experience.

But it must be approached with respect, awareness, and common sense.

If it feels right, you’ll be fine.

If it doesn’t—leave, and find somewhere that does.

Your safety and well-being always come first.
