How Do You Talk to a Ghost?

One of the questions I’m regularly asked is simple, yet fascinating: how do you talk to a ghost?

As someone who is often called to remove spirits from houses—and in some cases help when spirits have attached themselves to people—it’s a subject that naturally sparks curiosity. But before anything else, it’s important to say this: these situations don’t just happen out of nowhere. People don’t randomly find spirits attaching themselves to them. There are usually very specific circumstances that allow this to take place.

So, how does communication actually happen?

Communication Beyond the Physical

To understand how we speak to spirits, we first need to understand what happens when we leave the physical body.

When we pass over into the next world, we no longer have a physical body—no lungs, no voice box. Communication is no longer spoken. Instead, everything becomes mind to mind.

This is very similar to how a medium works during clairvoyance. Rather than hearing words in the traditional sense, a medium is picking up thoughts. In the spirit world, this is how everyone communicates. It’s a direct exchange—thought to thought.

Alongside this, there is also what we call spiritual sight. When you meet someone in the next world, you don’t just see them—you know them. You understand who they truly are on a deeper level, beyond appearances or words.

How This Applies to Ghosts

This same form of communication is how I speak to ghosts here on earth.

In most cases, the process begins when someone contacts me about a property. But often, the moment they do, I become aware of the spirit connected to that home. These spirits—what people commonly call ghosts—are not strange or sinister beings. Most of them are simply people, just like you and me, who have passed over but chosen not to move on.

And that choice is important. We all have free will, even after death.

Many of these spirits are confused. Some may have lived very restricted lives and simply remain where they feel comfortable. Others may have passed suddenly and not fully understood what has happened to them.

Why Spirits Are Noticed

Interestingly, many spirits remain unnoticed for years—sometimes decades. A person can live in a house quite peacefully without ever being aware of them.

Often, activity begins when something changes. Renovations, structural changes, even knocking down a wall—these disruptions can unsettle a spirit who has grown used to their surroundings. That’s when people begin to sense that something isn’t quite right.

The Moment of Connection

When I’m sent a photograph of a property, the connection can begin instantly. Distance makes no difference—it could be next door or on the other side of the world.

Through training and experience, I’m able to sense the spirit. But just as importantly, they sense me.

Imagine being in a place for decades, unseen and unnoticed, and suddenly someone becomes aware of you. That in itself can be quite a shock for the spirit. They’ve watched countless people come and go, yet no one has ever acknowledged them—until now.

At that moment, communication begins.

Not through speech, but through thoughts moving back and forth.

Building Trust and Encouraging Transition

As the connection develops, something else begins to happen. Because of that same spiritual awareness, the spirit quickly understands who I am and what I do. Some become cautious, even hesitant, especially if they realise I’ve helped others move on before.

And this is where the next stage begins.

I don’t just communicate with the spirit in the house—I also reach out to those in the spirit world. Their loved ones, their friends, those who are waiting for them. Gradually, these familiar presences draw closer.

Through reassurance, recognition, and gentle encouragement, the spirit is given a choice.

And it is always their choice.

In time, most choose to move on—not because they are forced, but because they are ready.

A Natural Process

So, when people ask how I talk to ghosts, the answer is both simple and profound:

It is thought to thought.

The same way all of us will communicate once we leave the physical world.

There is nothing unnatural about it. It is simply a continuation of consciousness—one that we all return to in time.
